Re: Image overlay in Celestia

Just my cent about pictures and video in Celestia : I use Celestia in the classroom to teach astronomy and astrophysics. I also heavily use pictures and videos. Most (if not all) of the pictures are shown from within Celestia using my LUA plug-in addon (already published on the forum a long time ago...

Re: TRAPPIST-1 system: 7 Earth-sized planets

If some are using a Mac, the special version published here could be used. Andrew's file with units is working great !

Re: TRAPPIST-1 system: 7 Earth-sized planets

I'm not home right now, so I don't have access to my Celestia. I think I have an SSC file for 3 planets around this star, like you.

Re: Coming Back

Don't forget there's a special version 1.7.0 for OS X there : viewtopic.php?f=4&t=17423

Full 64bit, many bugs fix, an absolute must have for any OS X user.

Welcome back John. I suggest that you check these recent addons : http://celestiaproject.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=23&t=17467 http://celestiaproject.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=23&t=17432 http://celestiaproject.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=23&t=17428 http://celestiaproject.net/forum/viewtopic...

Re: Celestia 1.7.0 Development will begin soon

Snowfall bump map ability on spacecraft and asteroid models would be really nice though too This is already available in Celestia (actually normal mapping). You just need to use the CMOD file type, and maybe use the CMOD tool. See for example the Curiosity model available elsewhere on this forum : h...

Re: Space Engine

At least, the real time (is it ?) complex landscape rendering looks very convaincing.

I guess you need to have a strong video card to render these in real time with a reasonable speed. I would like to have this feature in Celestia.

Guys, could you post some pictures from Space Engine ? I don't think we could use it on OS X.

Re: Infinite Universe / Multiverse

They aren't on the Motherlode : I hate its way of uploading addons. It's very cumbersome for me, since I have a large number of addons. Using the Motherlode interface is making me turning mad ! :fie: All the addons shown above were available here : http://celestiaproject.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=23...

Re: Infinite Universe / Multiverse

Just teasers. Here are some views of the cosmological addons. Most of them are animated, using CELX scripts. You can even see the evolution of galatic structures (filaments, walls, ...) :

Re: Infinite Universe / Multiverse

Frank, a long time ago, in a virtual universe ( ), I created several addons to represent cosmology : the CMB, several 3D models of super-structures, etc. They were available on the forum here, but the links are all broken now :zombie: One day, if I could find some free time, I'll republish ev...

Re: Interactive notebook: a WIP

Looks interesting. Could you click on a picture in that notebook to trigger some event ? Like getting the user at some location in Celestia ? This reminds me Myst , the game with books you could use to teleport yourself on some islands. Could be fun if you add a sound event, when the user click a pi...

Re: random minor body

I tried the textures. The normal map has a problem : too much unatural noise, that look likes aligned dots.

Re: Realistic HD planetary textures?

John, these textures are not of standard size (2k or 4k).

Also, 4k is much better, and don't forget the normal/specular maps !

Re: a asteroid test

cmod files of 12 MB is reasonable, in my opinion.

I suggest that you do a few more models like the previous one, with variations in shape, details, and textures.
